Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 2026

1. Introduction

QR & Barcode Scanner ("the App") is developed and operated by Scratterz ("we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our App.

This policy applies globally and is designed to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD), and other applicable data protection laws.

2. Data We Collect

2.1 Data stored locally on your device

The following data is processed and stored exclusively on your device. We never have access to it:

  • Scan history — scanned codes and timestamps
  • App settings — theme, language, preferences
  • Favorites — bookmarked scan entries

2.2 Data collected by third-party services

The App uses the following third-party services that may collect data as described below:

Service Data Collected Purpose
Google AdMob IP address, device identifiers, ad interaction data, diagnostic information Displaying advertisements
Google UMP SDK Consent preferences GDPR/CCPA consent management
Google Play Billing Purchase transaction data Processing ad-free upgrade purchases
Open Food Facts Barcode numbers (product EAN/UPC) Fetching product information (optional, disabled by default)

About advertising: The App displays ads via Google AdMob to support free development. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data to serve relevant ads. All data is encrypted in transit via TLS. In the EU/EEA, personalized ads are only shown with your explicit consent.

You can remove all ads permanently with a one-time in-app purchase, or watch a short video to enjoy the App ad-free for 24 hours. Purchasing the ad-free option stops all ad-related data collection entirely.

3. Data We Do NOT Collect

We want to be transparent about what we do not do:

  • We do not collect your name, email, phone number, or any personal identifiers
  • We do not access your location, contacts, photos, or other media
  • We do not operate our own servers or databases for user data
  • We do not sell personal data to anyone
  • We do not use any analytics or tracking SDKs beyond AdMob

4. App Permissions

The App requests only the permissions it needs:

Permission Required Purpose
Camera Yes Scanning QR codes and barcodes. Images are processed in real-time and never stored or transmitted.
Internet No Required only for ads, product information lookup, and in-app purchases. Core scanning works offline.
Vibration No Optional haptic feedback on successful scan. Can be disabled in settings.
AD_ID No Advertising identifier used by AdMob. Not collected if you purchase the ad-free upgrade.

5. Advertising

The App displays ads through Google AdMob to fund ongoing development and keep the App free. AdMob may collect and process certain data including device identifiers, IP address, and interaction data to show relevant advertisements.

  • EU/EEA (GDPR): Personalized ads are only shown with your explicit consent, collected via the Google UMP consent dialog.
  • California (CCPA): You have the right to opt out of the sale of personal information.
  • Brazil (LGPD): Data processing for advertising is based on legitimate interest or consent.
  • Other regions: Applicable local data protection laws are respected.

You can manage your ad privacy preferences at any time via Settings → Remove Ads → Manage Ad Preferences within the App.

For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy. policies.google.com/privacy

6. Data Security

Your local app data is stored in the App's private storage on your device, accessible only by the App itself. All data transmitted to third-party services (AdMob, Open Food Facts) is encrypted in transit using TLS (Transport Layer Security).

We recommend enabling a device lock (PIN, fingerprint, or face recognition) for additional protection of your data.

7. Data Retention & Deletion

Local data: You can delete individual scan entries, clear your entire scan history, or delete all app data at any time within the App. Uninstalling the App automatically removes all locally stored data.

AdMob data: If you withdraw consent via the UMP consent dialog, identifier data is no longer transmitted with ad requests. You can also manage data associated with your Google account at myaccount.google.com. myaccount.google.com

8. Your Rights

Regardless of your location, you have the following rights regarding your data:

  • Right to access: All your data is accessible directly in the App (history, favorites, settings).
  • Right to deletion: Delete individual entries or your entire history at any time.
  • Right to data portability: Export your scan data in CSV, JSON, or TXT format using the App's export feature.
  • Right to object: Disable online features (product lookup) in settings, and manage ad consent preferences at any time.
  • Right to withdraw consent: Revoke ad personalization consent via Settings → Remove Ads → Manage Ad Preferences.

9. Children's Privacy

The App is designed for a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 13. Since all user-generated data is stored locally and no personal information is collected by us, the App is safe for users of all ages. The App does not target children as its primary audience.

10. Third-Party Links

The App may open external links (e.g., URLs from scanned QR codes, product pages, or the Google Play Store). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of external websites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any external sites you visit.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App or applicable laws. Significant changes will be communicated through an in-app notification. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. The "Last updated" date at the top indicates the most recent revision.
